High altitude, thin ridges, stomach lifting exposure when climbing up or down a steep slope - mountain climbing is the culmination of many skills - navigation, strength, perseverance in harsh environments, weather prediction, expedition planning - and problem solving. The list goes on - but needless to say - there's a lot going on during a climb.
When you're a kid - it's hard to imagine where your future cycling trips will take you. Turns out they can take you to some of the most gorgeous places in the world!
Growing up in Sudbury - I was used to the cold - deep cold. I've always found it exciting that it could become so frigid outside. The harshness of the cold is fascinating - sometimes, it feels otherworldly - and yet, we adapt and function. The equipment we use tends to fail, and yet, with proper body management (e.g. protection from the cold, proper hydration & nutrition), it becomes a walk in the "park"!
The colours are stunning in the desert; the heat on the skin during the day and the coolness at night - in a weird way, it's comforting, but at the same time, potentially dangerous. Body awareness is of primary importance when operating in a desert environment.
Life can be exciting! Admittedly, it can sometimes be hard to make our dreams happen.
With a goal and lots of perseverance, it turns out your dream expedition is possible! Get creative and be prepared to work hard!
